The New Blue Laws
When Oliver Cromwell became the Lord Protector of England he instituted a series of laws designed to guarantee the purity of his theocracy. It wasn’t enough that he had banished the monarchy and executed Charles I. He had to control the thoughts and actions of Englishmen as well. Called the “Blue Laws” they were designed to enforce his strictly puritanical view of what English life should be.
Absolute power corrupted absolutely
Fresh from his victory in the English civil war, he had the power to enforce virtually any law he wanted to, and so the Blue Laws were pushed through. As is so often the case, the vast majority of the population kept their heads down and tried their best to go about their everyday lives. As time went by, however, it became evident that life in England had become miserable.
A sigh of relief and a return to sanity
No one was happy in Cromwell’s new paradise. No surprise there. Cromwell outlawed Christmas and forbid dancing around the maypole, something the English loved. Makeup was banned, and too colourful dress was punished. Many inns and theatres were closed. The English were forced to fast one day a month. Not surprisingly, a sombre mood settled over a once merry land. To enforce these rules soldiers roamed the streets punishing or brutalizing those who disobeyed.
Small wonder then, that when his son succeeded him, the whole thing collapsed. The English restored their monarchy, along with maypoles, makeup and Christmas, and the entire country breathed a sigh of relief. What had seemed like a good idea at the time turned out to be an unmitigated disaster and a nightmare for all involved.
A Lesson for Canada. Welcome back Mr. Cromwell.
What lesson does this contain for us? I submit that there is a crucial one. Canada is rapidly becoming Cromwell’s England. Now, I don’t mean to suggest that we are becoming a Puritan theocracy. Far from it. That’s not my point. In fact, the opposite is true. The Blue Laws are back, but they are anything but Christian. In our new Liberal Progressive Theocracy ( hereinafter referred to as the LPT) we are forbidden by law to criticize. In fact, as many are now coming to realize, we are losing our free speech and fundamental rights in a torrent of LPT laws that prevent us from even daring to express ourselves. Welcome back Mr. Cromwell.
No freedom, no humour, and no enjoyment please
Like him, our present LPT government doesn’t want us to enjoy ourselves. For them there is only one truth, a humourless fanatic one that prevents even the hint of criticism or humour in case someone, heaven knows who, becomes offended. Bills like C-16 and motions like M-103, along with other pieces of legislation like Quebec’s Bill C-18 and Ontario’s Bill 89, are being used to tell us what words we can use, and who we can and cannot criticize.
The Blue Laws are back, and they are no less draconian and tyrannical than they were in Cromwell’s day. There is no room in the LPT theocracy for humour or freedom. If you are deemed heretical you will be punished. They will tell you what language you may use, what groups to love and which to revile, and, if you are smart you will not run afoul of the Human Rights Commissions, special committees and government officials eager to correct your world view in much the same way as Cromwell’s troops did.
A Breaking Point is coming, and it won’t be easy.
No people who have fought so hard to pursue and defend their freedoms, whose heritage includes the Magna Carta, Charter, Bill of Rights and other enlightened documents should ever submit to the re-instatement of this historic tyranny. Like the English, I predict that a breaking point will come and we will grow tired of being told how to think, act, speak and live. Our task is to hasten that moment as much as possible by acting in opposition to the New Blue Laws as much as we can.
It is never easy to correct a great social wrong or to rectify a terrible political mistake. We shouldn’t expect it to be painless. But the truth is that we may be amongst the few who even realize it is happening, and part of the very few who even know that it is wrong. Because of this, in large ways and small, it’s up to us to start correcting things. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going outside to dance around the maypole.
Excellent points made and well done article. I would add that any moral or immoral (in Trudeau’s case) position that is FORCED will fail eventually. The Lord does NOT force His gift on us. Love implies NO force and being free to choose. As stated however, if we want the progressives (actually REGRESSIVES) imposition of their immorality to end sooner, we must be willing to suffer the consequences of our speaking out against their new tyranny.
Yes. Whether it will come in a major or minor way, those of us willing to stand up for truth must expect to make personal sacrifices. It can’t be helped.Once again, thanks for your comment.
Unfortunately, we take for granted that our leaders are making decisions that are beneficial for the majority of Canadians We are presently experiencing persons and groups that are able to influence their agendas into law without the whole country being fully aware of the negative consequences these decisions will have on our country now and in the future.
I believe that groups such as Freedom Defence Canada and other similar groups are taking the right steps in trying to inform and educate Canadians on understanding certain “Bills” that are being proposed by our elected representatives.
Well stated. I agree. In fact, we are probably entering a time, unlike any other in Canadian history, in which our elected officials may well be acting against the interests of large segments of the Canadian population in order to further their own ideological agenda. This the functioning definition of tyranny, the government working against the people, not for it.
Yes. Freedom Defence Canada are indeed taking the right steps to inform and educate Canadians and to provide active resistance against the even greater tyrannies that I personally believe are coming our way.
Again well written and informative article. Glad that so many people are waking up to these issues in Canada. Our parents and grandparents fought for freedom from this kind of tyranny sweeping Europe and we must not let this kind of social engineering slowly squeeze us to death here in Canada.
Thanks for your very accurate and timely comment. Yes. You have encapsulated the entire argument in saying that this is now a fight for freedom. We must not think of it any other way, and we must not minimize the importance of this struggle by saying it is just “changing times” or a “new phase.” It is a genuine fight for our very existence, both as social conservatives and as Canadians with a definable identity and culture. Social engineering a people against their will is just plain evil, and it is one we must dedicate our lives to fighting.

The swiss model can also fail when the people no longer follow their manual. The best system of course is a 100% perfect benevolent dictator. 🙂 Our left wing media is an arm of the left wing parties. Thus TheRebel.media is so important as an alternative. The constant barrage against anything decent by the main stream media has a huge effect. After all, advertisers would not spend millions on ads if they did not work. The CBC in particular is a left wing propaganda machine and should be sold by any future CPC government!
I agree with all of your points. I took me a while to realize what was happening to Canada, but eventually I understood that we were being socially engineered and manipulated by left leaning forces within the nation. An important point about Rebel Media though, is that it cannot stand alone. We need a wide spectrum of “resistance media” to the liberal media, in other words, many outlets like Rebel Media pounding away at the same message. It’s starting to happen, but we need more conservative “alternative” media out there. People need to take the initiative and put their concerns… Read more »
Agreed and we also need to support persons like John Carpay and his “Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms” https://www.jccf.ca/ who my wife and I support financially at least once per year. They do the hard work of challenging our left wing court system and it’s legislating from the bench. This is an almost insurmountable problem, however with God’s help most things are possible.
Yes. We need more people who are willing to do “front line” work. The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms are doing the hard work and they need our support. On Oct. 14th FDC is having John Carpy come to the Cowichan Valley and speak at Duncan Meadows Golf Course. You won’t want to miss it.
The far left-leaning agenda fundamentally corrupts through its teaching. Trace back to the Philosophers; Gramsci’s hegemony, then Foucault’s “controlling the power of knowledge”. The insidiousness of the indoctrination is initiated through the governmental mandated curriculums of the public schools and universities – yes ironically publically funded institutions. (Lord help the teacher who tries to interject some reality, common sense, or practicality) In effect, through our taxes, we are paying for our own demise! Like the Pied-Piper, the leftist educational agenda lures the youth with Avant Guard thinking, forming a new generation of self-annihilating voters who will follow even to their… Read more »
Well put Diane. You have perfectly described the situation in our now deplorable public school system where left leaning and “progressive” educational doctrine has been foisted on the minds of the young. It’s despicable, nothing less than evil. People, especially the young, should have the opportunity to make up their own minds about things without having this indoctrination forced on them.
That’s hitting the nail on the head with no less than a ten pound sledge
Excellent points and if they just stuck with the 3 Rs instead of their social engineering ideologies (like the CLPs, multiculturalism, saving the planet, Islam is a religion of peace, Scientism, governments can solve all problems, etc.) then the public institutions would be nearly neutral.
In reply to Hal’s answer on July 30th, yes. Somehow we must return to education as a means of informing and training and end the shift we have made toward leftist indoctrination. Since the mid 1960s, when we moved away from prayer in the schools ( in hindsight, not what I necessarily what I wanted to see) the school system has supposedly been a place where neutrality was observed, but we know now that it is not. The best way to describe it now is as a Neo Marxist, pro Islamic institution bent on indoctrinating kids with its despicable agenda… Read more »
@ Hal
Yes I agree that the Swiss model can fail, how ever I think having a system that ‘can’ fail is preferable to a system that inevitably ‘will’ fail.
Can’t idiot/fool proof the world, doing so only allows them to prosper/multiply….the Bible has something to say about that….
Hans
Hans, democracy has failed in the past in Greece. I believe a Republican system is preferable to a democracy. Please read some of the points made here:
http://www.americantraditions.org/Articles/Why%20Our%20Founders%20Feared%20a%20Democracy.htm
Good to see this kind of dialogue between interested people and FDC members. This is the kind of substantive discussion we need on as many forums as possible. Thanks for your input folks.
Hal, the problem I have at this point is that the word ‘Democracy’ is much too broadly defined or generalized a term to be used in this way, we need a much clearer and specific terms of reference. We can’t really say that a system of voting works or not based on the mechanism of voting, without addressing the issue of WHO is actually doing the voting and what are the ISSUES being voted on. Scripture is very clear about this, the issue of AUTHORITY and JURISDICTION…….In Deuteronomy when it says do not move the boundary stones, the context wasn’t… Read more »
If I may interject here, I think that the word ‘bureaucracy” does not apply to the kind of government we are beginning to experience here in Canada. Although generally understood to be bloated and inefficient, bureaucracies by themselves do not often pursue an extremist ideological agenda and force in on their citizens. The present situation in Canada vis a vis M-103, C-16, Bill 89 and so on, now represent the creation of an ideological secular theocracy much like the one I described above. Our present situation is moving away from democracy into an ideologically motivated apparatus designed to eliminate or… Read more »
Great interjection and I agree 100 percent and especially that we are being ruled by a “ideological secular theocracy”. That theocracy is made up of extreme left wingers (like the liberals and NDP) and Muslims. Guess which one of those two wins in the end?
Hans, as a NON Post Modernist I am willing to abide by the definition of democracy as outlined in a dictionary. Are you? I believe you brought up the idea that Switzerland had a more democratic system?
Our bureaucracies are not elected but they are the equivalent of the US Swamp that Trump talks about. We need to drain our swamp also. Bureaucrats can only do what out elected reps let them get away with.
I agree with Han’s remark regarding the issue of WHO is actually doing the voting. Discussing a failed system without addressing the supply chain that feeds it is like trying desperately to sell rotten apples instead of figuring out why they are rotten.
Well said Diane.
It must be my old age, but regarding “regarding the issue of WHO is actually doing the voting”: Just how can anyone know this since we have a secret ballot? Are you suggesting it is not secret? Just WHO brought up this issue? Just what am I missing?
